We come to you

Broken down on the M1 with a flat tyre?

Get somewhere safe first. Then ring us and we will come to you.

  • Get everyone behind the barrier before you ring anybody
  • Tell us the junction, the carriageway and your registration
  • We bring the tyre, the tools and the balancer
  • Car and van tyres, new or part-worn

Are we covering you?

Pop your postcode in and we'll tell you straight away.

A blowout on the motorway is not the moment to be weighing up options. Deal with the immediate danger first and worry about the tyre afterwards.

Get the vehicle onto the hard shoulder or, better, into the next services or off at the junction. Steer left, brake gently, and do not fight the wheel. Once you are stopped, put the hazards on, get everyone out through the passenger doors and behind the barrier, and stand well up the embankment away from the traffic. If it is dark or raining, that matters more, not less.

Then ring us. Tell us the junction you have just passed, which carriageway you are on and your registration. The registration matters because it tells us the tyre size to load — turning up with the wrong one helps nobody.

We cover the M1 through West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire and the roads either side of it. If you have made it off at a junction or into a services, that is usually the easiest job of the lot: somewhere flat, somewhere lit, and no live traffic ten feet away.

If you are still on the hard shoulder when you call, be straight with us about exactly where. Some spots are safe to work in and some are not, and we would rather tell you on the phone that you need Highways or a recovery truck to move you first than turn up and have to say it there.

A blowout at motorway speed almost always finishes the tyre, so expect a replacement rather than a repair. We carry new and part-worn car and van tyres and balance the wheel before it goes back on, the same as we would in the workshop.

Questions we get asked

Get off the live carriageway if you possibly can, put the hazards on, and get everyone out on the passenger side and behind the barrier. Then ring.

Sometimes. It depends exactly where you are and what the traffic is doing. Ring and tell us precisely where you have stopped — if it is not safe to work there we will say so, and a recovery truck can move you somewhere it is.

Very rarely. A tyre that has come apart at speed is damaged all the way through, and running any distance on a flat wrecks the inner wall. Plan on a replacement.

It depends where you are and what we already have booked. We will give you an honest answer on the phone rather than a number that sounds good.
