We come to you
Your car came without a spare. Now what?
Most new cars have a can of gunk and a compressor. That only gets you so far.
- Sealant kits only handle small tread punctures
- Sealant can rule out a proper repair afterwards
- We bring a real tyre to where the car is
- Balanced on site before the wheel goes back on
Are we covering you?
Pop your postcode in and we'll tell you straight away.
Manufacturers dropped the spare wheel to save weight and boot space, and most new cars now come with a sealant kit instead — a can of liquid and a small compressor. It works, up to a point, and the point comes sooner than people expect.
A sealant kit will deal with a small nail in the middle of the tread. It will do nothing for a sidewall cut, a blowout or a tyre that has come off the bead, which are exactly the failures that leave you stranded. It is a get-you-home measure, not a repair, and once the sealant is in, a proper repair is often no longer possible because the inside of the tyre is coated in it.
This is precisely why mobile fitting exists. Rather than a temporary bodge and a trip to a fitting centre tomorrow, we come to where the car is with a real tyre and fit it properly. No sealant, no space saver, no 50mph crawl home.
If you do carry a space saver, remember the speed limit stamped on it and that it is not meant for long distances. And if you are not sure whether your car even has anything in the boot, have a look this weekend rather than finding out at the side of a road in the dark.
Either way, if you are stuck, ring us. Give us the registration and we will bring the right size.
Questions we get asked
Tell us when you ring. It usually means a repair is off the table and the tyre gets replaced, and it takes a bit longer to clean up.
Whatever is stamped on it, usually 50mph, and only for as far as you need. It is not a tyre, it is a way of getting somewhere.
